The Spanish foot method of building guitars does not require a reinforced neck "). Dal sito " Classical Guitar ", rispondendo alla domanda " How important is a reinforced neck ? " : This is a great question, and as a builder I'm finding that more players are asking me about this. Do we need a reinforced neck? If so, why? and how should it be done? I have not any concrete answers on the matter, because I don't think there are any, but I consider these things important: 1) A truss rod in a neck can help the adjustability in terms of optimising neck relief. 2) Honduran mahogany is a lot stiffer and stronger than Spanish cedar, and therefore will probably not need reinforcement. 3) Spanish cedar is highly variable in terms of its density. Some S.C. really needs to be reinforced, and some is stiff and heavy enough not to need it, (IMO) 4) A mahogany neck loaded with a truss rod might help reduce vibrational loss to the neck and head area, sending more of the strings energy to the top, thus making a louder guitar. This is an argument put forth by many builders of concert guitars, like Redgate for example.
Ultimately there is no hard and fast answer to the question. But there are both structural and acoustic considerations here. I really think personally, that it boils down to the density of the wood used, and the final neck thickness. If the neck is going to be 20mm or less in thickness (@ 1st fret) I would strongly recommend honduran mahogany or spanish cedar with a reinforcement, unless the spanish cedar is extra dense and heavy. If the guitar neck is going to be 3 or 4mm thicker, like an older Hauser, it probably does'nt matter. Marcus DominelliLiutaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii ??? |
